GLOBAL OMNIUM AND ECUADOR CREATE A JOINT VENTURE TO INVEST UP TO 450 MILLION DOLLARS.

VALENCIA. Global Omnium (Aguas de Valencia) and the Government of the Republic of Ecuador have signed an agreement on Tuesday to create a mixed public-private partnership with which to undertake work to improve the quality and management of water in the Latin American country, mainly in the provinces affected by the 2016 earthquake, Esmeralda and Manabí.

The agreement foresees an investment of up to 450 million dollars financed by the investment fund Neftan, so that the joint venture -participated in 51% by the Government of Ecuador and 49% Global Omnium- can undertake a whole series of water projects in the next years.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador, María Alejandra Vicuña, was in Valencia on Tuesday to sign the agreement with the president of Global Omnium, Eugenio Calabuig; the president of NEFTAN, Francisco de Borbón; the manager of the Public Water Company (EPA) of Ecuador, Henry Cáceres; and the president of AVAECSA, Rafael García Hernández.

The investment fund Neftan will finance the projects through a trust but it will be the future joint venture - which is expected to start operating in three or four months - which will be in charge of managing and deciding the projects to be undertaken in the future. water, agriculture and popular and solidarity economy sectors, from infrastructures, to management and technological investment.

Specifically, the Ecuadorian Government, through the competent authorities, will define the technical, financial and other parameters, while Global Omnium will be in charge of carrying out the studies and preparing the plans and reports that are required.

In the case of the province of Esmeralda, nearly 700,000 people have supply problems and "24-hour water" and "quality water" are needed, exemplified by the Global Omnium representative in Ecuador, Ricardo Freire.

The link between Global Omnium and Ecuador begins in 2016, when the Valencian company donated a water treatment plant to the Latin American country valued at 2 million dollars for the victims of the 2016 earthquakes.

From there, the Valencian company became a strategic partner of the Public Water Company (EPA) to participate in the future public processes carried out by the Ecuadorian company. The purpose of this collaboration was to transfer the knowledge and experience of Global Omnium - with almost 130 years of experience - to the EPA in technical, administrative, commercial and financial areas and has involved an investment of close to 15 million dollars.

Now, the alliance between both entities gives "one more leap" with the signing of this "memorandum that will involve the creation of a joint venture, whose projects will cover a minimum of ten years of management", Freires explained.

For the president of Global Omnium, Eugeni Calabuig, the signing of the agreement signed on Tuesday is a "truly historic" event for the company that hopes "to contribute to improving the quality of life of people" in Ecuador. He has also highlighted the public-private collaboration between the Ecuadorian Government as an example of "efficiency" and has ensured its "commitment" to continue collaborating with its "advanced technology and experience".

The Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador, María Alejandra Vicuña, stressed that she intends to continue looking for projects of public-private collaboration such as this that allow undertaking projects that benefit Ecuadorian society due to the "possibility of generating employment and transferring technology and knowledge" .

The actions will be directed mainly to the state program 'Toda una vida' that directs its gaze towards the countryside to promote water projects that allow reactivating the productive agrarian economy, and to the 'Water and sanitation for all' program that aims to reduce malnutrition rates of children and guarantee the right to food in the country. And is that as Vicuña warned: "The Government of Ecuador spends about 300 million dollars a year to treat diseases of water origin. Therefore the importance of this agreement," she stressed.

ECUADOR AND GLOBAL OMNIUM WILL BE A COMPANY TO IMPROVE WATER MANAGEMENT AFTER THE 2016 EARTHQUAKE.

The Ecuadorian government and the Valencian company will allocate 450 million in hydraulic projects in two Ecuadorian provinces affected by the earthquake.

The Valencian Global Omnium and the Public Water Company (EPA) of Ecuador will form a joint venture to invest up to 450 million dollars (392 million euros) in the improvement of water for human consumption and agricultural irrigation in the country, mainly in projects in the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas, affected by an earthquake in 2016.

The vice president of Ecuador, María Alejandra Vicuña, and the president of Global Omnium (formerly Aguas de Valencia), Eugenio Calabuig, on Tuesday in Valencia the "Memorandum of Understanding", the step prior to the creation of the joint venture, for investment in the water, agriculture, popular economy and solidarity sectors in Ecuador.

The projects that will be developed will be decided, as explained by Ricardo Freire, the manager of Aguas de Valencia in Ecuador, by the joint venture, which could start operating in three or four months, and will reach up to 450 million dollars financed by the fund Neftan.

Among them, provide 24 hours a day quality water to the city of Esmeraldas, in northern Ecuador, "where 700,000 people have supply problems", a project that will require a period of time not less than ten or fifteen years, as Freire has indicated.

In this sense, the project will focus on the provinces of Esmeraldas and Manabí, where the joint venture will mainly develop its projects, although they could also be extended to other areas, as reported.

Strengthening business relationships

The Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador stressed that the Government has initiated a "new stage of opening" and "strengthening trade relations" with other countries and, for this, it is necessary to look for strategic partners such as the Valencian company.

Vicuña has stated that the Government wants to promote water projects that allow economic and productive development within a program to improve the capacities of the agricultural sector and provide safe water to all citizens.

Ecuadorian Vice President said that, the technology that Global Omnium will contribute will meet the objectives of the water and sanitation program, including reducing chronic child malnutrition rates and guaranteeing health.

The Government of Ecuador annually spends 261.3 million euros (300 million dollars) on treating diseases of water origin, according to Vicuña, who has expressed confidence that the results of the agreement for the creation of infrastructure and water resources management benefit to many citizens.

Alliance born in 2016, after the earthquake

The president of Global Omnium, Eugenio Calabuig, has indicated that the creation of a joint venture with the Ecuadorian Government is an example of public-private collaboration to improve water management and contribute to improving the quality of life.

The collaboration through the joint venture - which will be 51% of the Public Water Company and 49% of Global Omnium - was born of a strategic alliance that both parties started in 2016 and which resulted in an associative agreement of investment of some thirteen million euros (almost 15 million dollars) for the management of raw water in Ecuador.

The Valencian company donated, after the earthquake of 2016, a water treatment plant valued at 1.7 million euros (almost 2 million dollars) for those affected by the earthquake, an action that the Government of Ecuador valued, which subsequently signed a letter of understanding with Global Omnium and a relationship that facilitated the strategic alliance was initiated.

Global Omnium / Aguas de Valencia brings, according to Calabuig, specialized knowledge of cutting edge, experience, human and material resources, technological and financial.

It currently guarantees the supply and purification of water to more than seven million people in Spain and in countries such as Angola, Colombia, Ecuador, Qatar and Venezuela.

In the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the president of Aguas de Valencia Ecuador (AVAECSA), Rafael Hernández; the president of Neftan, Francisco de Borbón; and the manager of the EPA, Henry Cáceres.

CITY MAYOR MET WITH CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE GERMAN-SPANISH TRADING COMPANY (DSH) CLAUDIO CHAQUÉ.

Today, on August 7, the mayor met and discussed the investment opportunities of Lviv with the chief executive officer of the German-Spanish trade company (DSH), director of business development at Neftan Limied, Claudio Chaqué

"I think you know a lot about Lviv. Now we are actively developing the city in terms of investment. For example, in Lviv work on the construction of a new IT park continues. Construction of the Innovation District IT Park is not only the largest investment, but also more than 14 thousand new jobs.

Also this year, in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, we purchase 50 trolleybuses. This is very beneficial, because when working with a bank, we receive significant grants. Our goal is to improve public transport in the city, and the foundations of the European Union support us. Therefore, I hope that you will be interested in our city. We would be glad to invite you to develop Lviv. Because for us every new investment in a city or a country is a new culture of production, "said Andriy Sadovyy, Lviv Mayor.
